I have 15 years of experience across private and public sector organisations. I started my career in management consulting, where I had some interesting experiences – working with the Thai Prime Minister’s Office during a military coup, and working with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation on vaccines distribution and health communication in Ghana – in addition to the more ‘standard’ projects with corporate clients.
After climbing the ladder for a few years, I left to take an accelerated 1-year MBA in Madrid, Spain, hoping to take the time to figure out a new direction and new challenges. The outcome of that process led me to focus on the healthcare industry, joining a multinational pharmaceutical company in Denmark. I subsequently moved from Denmark to China to join the management team as Chief of Staff, simultaneously leading the Digital Health department at a critical time during the pandemic – overseeing the rapid upscaling and expansion of digital platforms and tools to support the 3000-strong salesforce to maintain operations. During this period, I also had the opportunity to launch innovative new digital products, such as patient support platforms and an AI-enabled Chinese-language chatbot to provide 24/7 support for patients.
Most recently, I have been working in the field of obesity, which is experiencing exciting developments in understanding of the biology of weight and treatment. I have been recognised for my ability to cut through complexity and uncertainty, mentorship and team development capabilities, communication skills and desire to have positive impact.
Career-related coaching – for young and mid-level professionals who are looking to progress or navigate organisational challenges
Leadership / executive coaching – as a sounding board for more seasoned executives on challenges they are facing
Weight management – for people who are interested in weight loss or maintenance
In my free time, I enjoy drinking green tea, reading, muay thai/kickboxing, and hiking (although not all at the same time). I have volunteered in children’s hospitals since university, and am particularly invested in people development, through mentoring and coaching my teams and others outside work.
I am a Malaysian who has lived, studied and/or worked in 13 countries; all this moving around and exposure to different cultures has made me able to understand different perspectives, upbringing and norms, but it has also made me deeply aware of common human needs – like the need to be seen, to be understood and to belong. Despite all of these life experiences, I am unfortunately only able to communicate effectively in English and Mandarin (I know, my parents were disappointed in me too). Mindfulness has had a positive impact on me, and I am still experimenting with ways to incorporate it into my life.
– Curiosity (did not kill the cat): Curious about a person’s motivations and path – what brought you to this point?
– Seeks the ‘core’ of whatever we are talking about – what is really driving the behaviour
– Light and playful where possible (a relaxed state of mind leads to openness and exploratory mindset)
– Can be direct, but also believes that trust, rapport and a little bit of humour goes a long way
We only have one life to lead, why not make the most of it?
