Always sits between Business and Technology, being the bridge for two worlds. But not only a generalist, always strive to be a specialist in every field I explore.
– My degree is probably the most ‘fun’ one you’ve ever heard = Electrical and computer engineering (EEE) + Art and Design (NTU ADM) + Media and Communication (NTU WKW). It’s a hybrid course designed to cultivate the most versatile talents – so we can be innovative, we are independent in creating new things, and we never limit ourself to one area
– But I took a first job NOT relevant to my degree at all —— Data Strategist in a consumer insights consultancy, where I advised big consumer brands on marketing strategies. We analysed open source data to understand consumers’ shifting preferences and emerging trends (Human-centred data science). And yes, I’m the only one who did both coding & market strategy, so sometimes I could be a one man team for the whole project…
– Moving from agency to brand, I joined a DTC furniture brand Castlery, leading the MarTech development. Fun fact, Castlery is a Singapore brand (woohoo!) but the biggest market is US. Again it’s a pretty different role but I adapted to it quickly. A lot of people ask what is Martech —— it stands for Marketing Tech, but what it really means…. welcome to contact me and find out more details :p
– Good at helping coachee find two things —— ‘passionate career’ and ‘life partner’ <3
– Have broad exposure to many fields so likely to have more common ground and empathy with my coachee
– Flowing freely between ESTJ and ENFP now, can resonate with ‘both sides of the world’
– Enjoy coaching in both Mandarin and English. Believe different languages bring different parts of people, but both are their ‘real self’
– ‘Islander’ describes my life path —— I grew up in an island (Xiamen) then moved to another island (Singapore) for uni and work
– The craziest thing I’ve done —— I signed a 11 year scholarship contract when I was only 16 years old… and now I still have 4 years left in the contract
– I’ve been ‘unconsciously coaching’ my peers since 14, when I was in high school —— and those conversations are still frequently called back after 10 years. Many people reviewed it as ‘life-changing’. That’s why I come to learn coaching, think it might be one of my calling
– I danced Kpop and my crew has a dance video with 1M+ views on YouTube —— a lot of people were surprised when they found out I did Boy Group dance, not the cute and sexy girl group ones
– Have a lot of other hobbies so I’m working hard to ‘specialise’ on some —— loves Cooking and Baking, getting into Coffee and Wine appreciation, learning Korean and Japanese. I’m a certified diver and a ‘lousy’ ice skater as well. But haven’t touched those for quite long.
– Was a strong ESTJ for past 5 years —— changed to ENFP this year. And I sort of know why it happened.
– Another fun fact —— I traveled to 5 different countries during Covid time. And I’m an experienced ‘quarantine-r’ since I’ve done 4×14 days of quarantine during the 3 years. I hope this is an experience I’ll never need to use again in my life (finger crossed)
If I make a word cloud of the feedback I’ve received from my coachee, the biggest words and phrases you’ll see are:
– “Great listener”
– “Make people want to share”
– “Open and friendly”
– “AHA!”
– “Empathetic”
Don’t have a philosophy. But resonates with a lyric from Taeyeon ‘I’.
“My Life is a beauty~”
And I’d love to influence more people to resonate with this!
