Cat has spent over a decade at MOE bridging dichotomies. She helps others toggle between different perspectives as she can:
– see the big picture and work with details
– take a task-oriented and a people-centric approach
– plan in advance and improvise on the spot
As a testament to how she reconciles contradictions, Cat is both effective on the ground and in ‘the ivory tower’. She was named ‘Most Engaging and Effective Teacher’ and was also one of the youngest officers to be made a Senior Specialist (Gifted Education) and to win an Overseas Merit Postgraduate Scholarship at MOE HQ’s Curriculum Planning and Development Division.
While carrying out educational research and policy-crafting, she’s created curriculum materials for use in Gifted and High Ability Learner classrooms; while training teams of teachers, she’s provided personalised coaching to each individual; and while organising and running MOE’s creative writing programmes for primary to JC students, she’s mentored young writers and trained alumni members as student leaders.
Her background enables her to help clients and mentees toggle between ‘the forest’ and ‘the trees’, keeping in focus the grand, unifying vision while moving through the steps of practical execution.
• Faith and spiritual life (Christianity)
• Life coaching for women wearing many hats
• Relationships
• Dating, looking for a life partner
• Personal Development and Transformation
• Career transitions for women
As a coach, Cat’s lit grad training enables her to process enormous amounts of information to sieve out patterns. She examines life stories to look for character trajectories and narrative convergence so that she can gain insights about where the material of her clients’ lives–both internal and external–will lead them. Having trained teachers to use the Socratic method in the classroom, Cat is able to adapt this approach to ask powerful questions that help coaching clients induce their own answers.
In coaching, Cat draws from her educational background to help clients turn abstract goals into concrete plans so that they can take action, as well as set specific and measurable milestones to chart their progress.
Cat loves coaching because clients bring their whole selves into conversations. She thrives when she witnesses how clients flourish in their personal lives, relationships or sense of spiritual direction.
Cat’s favourite mode of reconciling contradictions is in combining fun and function. She has:
• Used games, memes, comics and Dungeons & Dragons as teaching materials-–they’re super effective!
• Made “infuriatingly difficult” puzzles to trick 200 teens into bonding at an academic 5-day virtual camp-–they’re super affective!
• Hidden easter eggs in national curriculum materials that would escape her supervisor’s notice but amuse kids-–they’re super selective!
• Listens actively and non-judgmentally in a warm and empathetic way
• Provides safe space
• Pays close attention to nuance and subtleties in words
“The Gospel changes everything.”
“To love what is good by seeing what is beautiful.”
“Every action you take is a vote you cast for your future identity.”
